OHS Juniors Surprised with Two Scholarships while receiving
2022-2023 Youth Leadership Plaque
OSCEOLA - Yesterday, the 4-H Youth Leadership Program participants from OHS's 11th grade raised the bar for success! These students were surprised to receive their first scholarship for college while being given their plaque for " 2022-2023 Youth Leaders of 4-H Mississippi County" . Kadan Newson, BreAnn Fultz-Foster, Damia Grice, and Alyssa Crafton, four Osceola High School 11th graders, are the group project winners for the Mississippi County 4-H Youth Leadership Program for the years 2022–2023.
In addition to winning this award, Kadan and Alyssa also won second place in the essay contest component. Each receiving a $500 college scholarship and trophies. All six schools in the leadership program would choose a service-learning project that had an influence on their community or school. The service project adheres to a rubric that includes a final essay, monthly workshops along with the service project.
The students worked with the EAST Initiative to develop a project that would benefit Osceola High school. The OHS Youth Leaders, according to Alyssa, 16, wanted to provide a high school club that introduces students to technology and trade skills. S.H.I.F.T (Students Helping in Future Transitions) is a club that teaches students technology, media, and communication skills while also looking for ways to benefit the community. This club has been approved by the high school as an official club that will keep imparting knowledge to OHS students long after these students have graduated high school.
Each year, the Mississippi County high school's gather a group of up to six, eleventh graders to represent the school, competing for the 4-H Youth Leadership Program Award. 4-H offers programs for students up to age 19 to learn new skills and apply for various scholarships offered by the University of Arkansas School of Agriculture.
