Communities nation wide found ways to honor MLK Day. Choices Learning Center CLE, students took part in organizing and hosting "Feeding our Community". A service day in which students not only practiced food prep and sanitation skills, but also collaborated to cook and distribute the plates to a variety of people.
The students had help from parents, the AKA chapter of Lambda Sigma Omega Chapter and Ignite Non-Profit Program. In total, 122 trays of food were served to the community of Osceola.
The students and volunteers decided that this holiday wouldn’t be a day off, they decided to have a day on to serve, says Mrs. Christel Smith, principal of CLE. This is a reflection of what Osceola is love, and giving food definitely shows love, notes a non-profit representative from Ignite.
Choices Learning Center not only works to organize community service projects for their students but also invites community leaders to mentor the students. For more information on the next service project or to mentor please contact Christel Smith phone: (870)563-1871 email: csmith@osd1.org .
